BASEBALL SPLITS WITH STAC AS POLEMENI CLOSES IN ON SINGLE-SEASON HOME RUN RECORD

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team earned a split of their conference doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas earlier today the team moved one step closer to a spot in the ECC Playoffs.  In game one, the Dolphins once again put together a big effort at the plate in a 14-11 win.  In game two, the Spartans took the win by a final score of 11-4.  CSI ends the day 14-24 overall and 8-7 in conference play.  The Spartans are now 10-25 on the year and 5-10 against the ECC.

GAME 1
The Spartans took their only lead of the game in the first inning as three CSI errors allowed an unearned run to score.  The 1-0 score would stand until the home third inning when the Dolphins scored eight runs on five hits.  Jaden Waterman, Michael Flashner, and TJ Laino all delivered RBI hits as the Dolphins went ahead by seven.  That lead would be cut to just two when the Spartans scored five times on five hits in the fifth.  STAC would then pull to within one in the sixth, but the Dolphins scored three more in the bottom half of the inning.  Home runs by AJ Vigliotti and TJ Laino put the Dolphins ahead 11-7 in the sixth, and Chris Polemeni added a solo shot in the seventh.  STAC would score once more in the eighth, but Polemeni would double home two more CSI insurance runs in the bottom half.  Trailing 14-8 entering the ninth, STAC struck for three runs against the CSI bullpen.  However, the Spartans would not get any closer than three in the inning as the Dolphins took the win, 14-11.

Polemeni was 5-6 with 4 RBI, and both AJ Vigliotti and Jaden Waterman finished with three hits.  As a team, the Dolphins had 15 hits in the game, and four different Dolphins finished with multiple hits.  Michael Furst earned the win with 5.0 innings of work, and the Spartans finished the game with eleven hits.

GAME 1
After the Spartans went down in order to begin the game, Polemeni put the Dolphins in front with another solo home run, his second of the day.  STAC quickly answered with three runs in the second, and the Spartans would lead the rest of the way.  The STAC lead would grow to seven in the third, but the Dolphins would get one back on an RBI hit by Vigliotti in the bottom half.  The Spartans would then grow their lead further with three runs in the fourth, but Polemeni would homer for the second time in the game to make it 11-3.  A Nico Rodriguez RBI single would plate the fourth Dolphins run, but this would be the last time that CSI would score in an 11-4 defeat. Polemeni and Vigliotti accounted for four of the six CSI hits and Polemeni moved to within one home run of tying the CSI single-season record.

The Dolphins next be in action on Thursday against Felician University as they host the Golden Falcons on Heroes Day at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.
