BASEBALL TAKES THREE OF FOUR FROM SPARTANS BEHIND COMMANDING 9-2 VICTORY

Sparkill, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team moved closer to securing a spot in the ECC playoffs this afternoon as they defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College, 9-2.  The Dolphins finish the day 15-24 overall and 9-7 in conference play as they defeat the Spartans for the third time in four games.  STAC ends the day 10-26 on the season and 5-11 against the ECC.  The Dolphins, currently second in the ECC standings, will not play another conference game until the first weekend of May against D'Youville University.

Much of the game's scoring came in the third inning as the Dolphins rallied for six of their nine runs in the frame.  The inning began with a pair of singles by Chris Polemeni and Jack KehoeAJ Vigliotti then walked to load the bases before JJ Hunter singled home two runs.  Another walk loaded the bases a second time setting up a 2-RBI hit by TJ LainoMichael Flashner then singled home another and Nico Rodriguez capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly.  It was in the fourth that the Spartans would score for the first time, but they would settle for just one run in the inning.  The Dolphins would later add a run of their own on an RBI single by Hunter in the sixth, and the Dolphins would score twice more in the seventh.  Trailing 9-1, the Spartans scored for the final time in the eighth, and the Dolphins would go on to win by a final score of 9-2.

Kehoe, Hunter, and Laino each had two hits in the game, and Hunter drove in a team-high three runs.  Laino and Flashner each drove in a pair, and the Dolphins finished the game with eleven hits as a team.  Francesco Bonvini got the start and earned his first win of the year allowing two runs on ten hits in 7.0 innings.  Ryan Kehoe and Jack Kehoe each added a scoreless inning of relief as well, and neither allowed a hit out of the bullpen.

The Dolphins next be in action on Thursday against Felician University as they host the Golden Falcons on Heroes Day at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.
