BASEBALL CLINCHES FIRST DIVISION II PLAYOFF BERTH AS POLEMENI TIES SINGLE-SEASON HOME RUNS RECORD

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team made history in more than one way this afternoon as they earned a split of their doubleheader against D'Youville University.  With a 15-9 victory in game one, the Dolphins secured their first appearance in the postseason as a Division II program.  In game two, the Saints defeated the Dolphins 15-2.  However, Chris Polemeni tied the program's single-season home runs record in the fourth inning.  With a home run in either of the team's last two games tomorrow, Polemeni will become CSI's all-time single-season home runs leader with 15.  Following the doubleheader split, the Dolphins end the day 17-25 overall and 10-8 in conference play.  The Saints end the day 13-32 on the season and 7-11 against the ECC.

GAME 1
The Dolphins opened the scoring in game one with two runs in the second.  Following a leadoff single by TJ Laino and a walk, Nico Ridrigues gave the Dolphins their first lead with a two-run single.  D'Youville would get even with a 2-RBI hit of their own in the third, but the Dolphins would go back in front on a wild pitch in the bottom half.  The Saints would take their first lead two innings later with three runs on four hits in the fifth.  The Dolphins answered back once again with a five-spot in the bottom half to go in front 8-5.  The big blow in the inning came in the form of a 2-RBI hit by Polemeni, and Saints pitching was plagued with command issues throughout the frame.

Now trailing by three, D'Youville scored twice in the sixth to make it a one-run game.  The Saints then took their final lead with two runs in the seventh, but this would be the last time they would score.  Polemeni tied the score at 9-9 with a base hit in the seventh, and Laino delivered another 2-RBI hit to cap off a four-run rally.  Leading 12-9 entering the eighth, the Dolphins added three insurance runs on a pair of RBI hits.  Jack Kehoe plated the first run of the inning, and Michael Kehoe delivered a 2-RBI hit to conclude the scoring in a 15-9 CSI victory.

Laino led the Dolphins with three hits and was one of three Dolphins to register multiple hits in the game.  Michael Flashner and Polemeni each added two hits, and Polemeni drove in a team-leading three runs.  Ryan Kehoe earned a no decision in his start, and three CSI relievers combined to pitch the final four innings. Ryan Fiore earned the victory out of the bullpen and Jack Kehoe picked up his third save.

GAME 2
The Saints scored nine in the first inning and never looked back as they went in front by as many as 13 runs in the seven-inning game two.  Despite the lopsided score, history was made in the third inning as Polemeni tied the CSI single-season program record with his 14th of the season.  With two games remaining, the sophomore is one home run shy of the all-time record for home runs in a season by a Dolphin.  He will have two more games to hit his record-breaking fifteenth home run when they Dolphins face the Saints tomorrow.

The Dolphins were held to just four hits in the game led by JJ Hunter with two.  In addition to the Polemeni home run, Hunter also drove in a run with a fourth-inning double.

The Dolphins will close the regular season at home with Senior Day tomorrow.  Due to inclement weather, tomorrow's matchup with the Saints will now be a doubleheader rather than a single nine-inning game.  First pitch of game one will be at 10:00 AM.
