BASEBALL SPLITS WITH D'YOUVILLE ON SENIOR DAY TO END HISTORIC REGULAR SEASON

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team wrapped up the regular season yesterday as they split their Senior Day doubleheader with D'Youville University.  In game one, the Dolphins erased a four-run deficit to pick up a walk-off win, 7-6.  Ahead of the second game, the Dolphins recognized their nine seniors in an on-field ceremony.  The career of each senior was celebrated with a look back at their contributions to the program, and each had family, friends, and coaches join them on the field.  Following the Senior Day presentations, the Saints offense scored 21 runs on 21 hits as they ended their season with a victory in game two, 21-10.  The Dolphins end the regular season 18-26 overall and 11-9 in conference play.  D'Youville ends their season 14-33 and 8-12 against the ECC.

GAME 1
After the Dolphins stranded two on base in the first, the Saints opened the scoring with three runs on four hits in the second.  The Saints would extend their lead to four with a run in the third, but the Dolphins would cut the four-run deficit in half behind an AJ Vigliotti 2-RBI double in the bottom half of the inning.  D'Youville would get both of those runs back in the fourth, and neither team would score again until the seventh.  Chris Polemeni tripled home the third Dolphins run to cut the Saints lead to three, and a wild pitch would bring him home from third to pull the Dolphins to within two.  An RBI single by Anthony Sutera brought the Dolphins to within one in the eighth, and CSI would enter the bottom of the ninth trailing, 6-5.  Consecutive walks put two on base for JJ Hunter, and a ground ball back to the mound appeared as if it could end the game.  However, two Saints throwing errors on the play allowed both the tying run and winning run to score as the Dolphins walked off with a 7-6 win.

Four Dolphins, Polemeni, Hunter, Sutera, and Jack Kehoe, had a multi-hit game, and Vigliotti led the way in with two RBI.  Michael Furst got the start and allowed six runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings.  Aidan Kielty earned the win behind one of his best outings of the season with 5.2 innings of scoreless one-hit relief.

GAME 2
The Dolphins took their only lead of game two with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning.  Kehoe and Laino each singled home one as the Dolphins took a 2-0 lead into the second.  From there, the Saints bats erupted for five runs in the second and four runs in the third, fourth, and sixth.  This put D'Youville in front 17-2, but the Dolphins would strike for four in the bottom half of the sixth.  Jandel Brito doubled home a pair, John Harrington singled home one, and a wild pitch brought home one more to make it 17-6.  Both teams would score two in the seventh with the two CSI runs coming home on a fielder's choice grounder and a bases loaded walk.  D'Youville added two more in the eighth, and the Dolphins scored once in each of the last two innings.  A Michael Flashner infield single brought home the first of the two runs, and a Saints throwing error brought home the game's final run in the ninth.

Mike Cunningham, Christopher Reilly, and Flashner each had multiple hits in game two, and Brito led the Dolphins with 2 RBI.  Five CSI pitchers got work in the game with Andrew Ozoria delivering the lone scoreless outing.

The #2 seeded Dolphins will open the postseason in Buffalo on Thursday as they will take on the #3 seeded Mercy University Mavericks in the opening rounds of the 2025 East Coast Conference Baseball Championship.
