Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Chestnut Hill College, 1-0, at Dolphins Soccer Park. The result evens the Dolphins' record at 1-1 on the year and the squad's first victory since October 2023.
The Dolphins recorded one shot in the first half and one shot was all they needed. After a deflection in front of goal, the ball fell to Sara O'Donnell, who booted the ball into the net for what proved to be the game-winner.
Chestnut Hill responded with sustained pressure over the final 45 minutes, registering nine second-half attempts, including one shot off the crossbar and another turned away by the Dolphins' defense. With three minutes remaining, the Griffins earned a final chance from a corner kick, but were unable to direct the ball on goal for the equalizer.
Dolphin's goalkeeper, Oksana Zahirna, made her first appearance in net and snagged four saves in the win.
CSI Women's Soccer will be back in action this Saturday, Sept. 20, for their first road game of the 2025 campaign in Orangeburg, NY versus Dominican (NY) University. The kick-off time is set for 12:00pm.
