WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS ONE-GOAL RESULT TO FELICIAN IN SEASON OPENER

Staten Island, NJ - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team opened the 2025 at home against Felician University earlier today as they fell to the Golden Falcons by a score of 1-0.  A back-and-forth first half saw Felician break through with the game's first goal off the foot of Kate Braun in the 34th minute.  This one-goal lead would stand the rest of the way as the 1-0 Golden Falcons picked up their first win in program history against the Dolphins.  With the loss, the Dolphins begin the season 0-1.

The Dolphins registered the first shot of the match nearly 20 minutes into the first half, but the first quality chances belonged to the Golden Falcons.  Braun narrowly missed giving Felician the early lead when her first shot attempt traveled just high.  Isabella Schlee then gave the Dolphins their first quality chance after a cross traveled onto her foot through heavy traffic.  The ensuing shot produced the first of three saves for Isabella Riollano, and her team's attack would immediately hand her the lead.  Braun would score seconds after the CSI scoring opportunity, and this would be all the offense Felician needed.

Albana Gjonbalaj would connect with the crossbar on a CSI free kick, and Mia Cole narrowly missed her first goal as a Dolphin wide to the right minutes later.  This sent the game to halftime with the Golden Falcons leading 1-0, and the two teams would combine for just five shots in the second half.  Two belonged to the Dolphins, one of which was on goal.  Felician collected three shots in the half, one blocked and two more on target.  Both goalkeepers were not scored upon during the final 45 minutes, and Felician took the win, 1-0.

Braun and Kalina Stanisic led all attackers with three shots each in the match, and six different Dolphins registered a single shot.  Ten Dolphins made their CSI debut in the defeat, and CSI used 17 players in their season opener.

The Dolphins will next take the pitch at home on Wednesday when they face Chestnut Hill College at home.  That match will kick off from Dolphins Soccer Park at 3:00 PM.
