DOLPHINS ECC CLASH ENDS IN A LOSS AGAINST NO. 23 DAEMEN

AMHERST, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team continued East Coast Conference (ECC) play Sunday afternoon on the road against No. 23 Daemen University in Amherst, NY. The Dolphins went toe-to-toe with the nationally ranked Wildcats in the opening quarter, trailing by just two after ten minutes, but a strong second quarter by Daemen proved to be the difference as CSI fell, 78–52.

Daemen opened the game on a 6–2 run, with Racky Kane scoring the Dolphins' first basket. Shortly after, Dana Phelan knocked down a three-pointer to pull CSI within one, 6–5, before an Arielle Barnes bucket briefly gave the Dolphins a 7–6 lead. Once the Wildcats reclaimed the advantage, CSI trailed for the remainder of the contest, though the Dolphins continued to compete throughout.

CSI trailed by just two at the end of the first quarter but was limited to 12 points in the second, while Daemen scored 20 to create separation. The Dolphins received scoring contributions from Shonyae Edmonds, Giuliana Dito, Kyra Rose, and Dorothy Wiese. After Edmonds opened the quarter with a basket, the Wildcats used a 6–0 run to extend their lead to eight, 23–15. A three-pointer from Dito and a layup by Wiese cut the deficit to five, but Daemen maintained control and prevented any further lead changes before halftime.

Daemen continued its momentum in the second half, scoring over 20 points in both the third and fourth quarters. CSI battled defensively and offensively, scoring as many as 15 points in the third, but ultimately fell short. With the loss, the Dolphins dropped to 2–3 in ECC play and 6–10 overall.

Rose led the Dolphins with 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Phelan followed with nine points, including two three-pointers. Edmonds and Dito each added eight points, with Dito shooting 50 percent (2-for-4) from beyond the arc. Wiese contributed four assists to round out CSI's scoring efforts.

The Dolphins return to the hardwood of the Tank Wednesday night, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas College in ECC play at 5:30 PM.
