DOBBS FERRY, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team will head back on the road this Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. matchup against Mercy University in Dobbs Ferry, NY, marking the second meeting between the two teams this season. The Dolphins enter the contest riding the momentum of a statement 95–85 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday night, a win that vaulted CSI into second place in the East Coast Conference standings.

2025–26 ECC Opener Victory

The two programs first met on Dec. 3, 2025, at the Tank to open ECC play. CSI built a commanding 16-point halftime lead, 46–30, and held off a second-half push from the Mavericks to secure a 90–79 home victory.

Aaron Goldstein and JJ Chestnut led the Dolphins with 21 points apiece. Chestnut was highly efficient, shooting 75 percent (3-4) from beyond the arc and 89 percent (8-9) from the field. Goldstein and Joey Poulin paced the offense with four assists each. Andrew Benedict recorded the first double-double of his collegiate career with 10 points and a team-high 14 rebounds, while Asa Kone followed closely with 11 boards.

Goldstein and Tibbs Reach Career Milestones

Wednesday night was one for the CSI record books. In addition to securing their first win over St. Thomas Aquinas since the 1978–79 season, and their first in the Division II era, Goldstein reached the 1,000-point milestone while pouring in a career-high 36 points. Head coach T.J. Tibbs also earned his 100th career victory. Prior to tip-off, the department recognized Chestnut for reaching 1,000 career points on Jan. 6 against Post University.
