STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team will ring in the new year with a non-conference contest against Assumption University on Friday afternoon at the Tank, marking the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
While the teams have never faced one another, Assumption enters the contest with the edge in both overall record and conference standing. The Greyhounds are tied for the best overall record in the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) sitting at 8–1, while the Dolphins are working their way up the East Coast Conference (ECC) standings at 4–7 overall and currently sit fourth in the league. Both squads come in riding win streaks, as CSI has won three straight, highlighted by victories over the University of the District of Columbia, American International, and Pace, while Assumption carries a five-game winning streak into Friday's contest.
The Greyhounds' lone loss of the season came on Nov. 25 in a NE10 matchup against American International, where the Yellowjackets outscored Assumption in each quarter en route to a 71–52 victory. Meanwhile, CSI, handed American International a setback of its own just before the holiday break, earning a thrilling 65–63 win on a last-second basket to extend its winning streak.
Kyra Rose enjoyed a standout month of December, leading the Dolphins with an average of 16.2 points per game and recording two double-doubles in six contests. On the season, Rose paces CSI with 13.0 points per game—ranking her among the ECC's top 10 scorers—while also averaging 7.9 rebounds and collecting 19 steals. Racky Kane follows with 12.7 points per game and leads the team with 11 blocks, while Shonaye Edmonds adds 12.1 points per contest.
