GAME DAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTS FINAL NON-CONFERENECE GAME OF THE SEASON AGAINST POST

1/6/2026 10:00:00 AM

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team will host its final non-conference matchup of the season when it takes on Post University Tuesday evening at the Tank.

This will be the second overall meeting between the two teams. In the 2024–25 contest in Connecticut, the Dolphins fell 86–71 after trailing by 11 at halftime. CSI shot just 20% from long range in that contest, connecting on only 3-of-15 attempts. Despite the loss, the Dolphins recorded 41 bench points, led by returner Asa Kone, who finished with 14 points, and current assistant coach Justin Zieris, who added 15. JJ Chestnut led the team with 13 points while also dishing out six assists.

Goldstein On Top
Dolphins junior guard Aaron Goldstein, who has earned two East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week honors along with his first-ever All-MET Player of the Week recognition, currently leads both the team and the conference with 21.0 points per game, ranking 22nd in the NCAA. He has been a force on the hardwood, particularly from beyond the arc, knocking down 41 three-point field goals to lead the conference while shooting 38% from long range. Additionally, Goldstein leads the team with 22 steals and ranks second behind JJ Chestnut with 65 assists.

Chestnut Dishing Out Success
Chestnut is the program's all-time leader for assists in a single game after recording 14 during his freshman season in 2022–23. This year, he matched his second-highest total with 13 assists against Wilmington (Del.) and he currently ranks second in the ECC with 5.0 assists per game, which is good for 31st nationally. Chestnut is also averaging 11.6 points per game and sits just six points shy of reaching 1,000 career points.

Riding A Win Streak Into the New Year
As the Dolphins head into their final non-conference contest of the season, the squad is riding a five-game winning streak and is one of two teams in the conference currently holding a streak, sitting at 8–2 overall. As a team, CSI averages 87.2 points per game while allowing 81.2 and holds a rebounding advantage over opponents at 40–36 through 14 games this season. The Dolphins will look to extend the streak as they enter the final leg of the 2025–26 regular season with ECC play ahead.

Eagles Looking To Jump Back Into Winner's Circle
The Eagles' final contest prior to the new year came on Dec. 19 at Saint Anselm College, where the squad dropped an 85–70 decision. They then opened the new year by hosting conference opponent Georgian Court and secured the 104-72 victory to snap a three game losing streak prior to heading into Tuesday's contest.

Individual Scoring Comparisons
The Dolphins enter the night with five players averaging double figures, led by Goldstein, followed by Eric Tynes (11.8 ppg), Kone (11.7), Chestnut (11.6), and Mitchell Wiggan (10.9). Post features three players averaging double-digit scoring, led by a team-high 12.6 points per game through 12 games, followed by averages of 12.2 and 11.1.
