Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

TROUBLESOME FIRST HALF LEADS TO DOLPHINS LOSS TO EAGLES

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team hosted Post University Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup at the Tank.

The Dolphins were limited to eight points in both the first and second quarters as the Eagles found their rhythm, scoring 10 and 16 points respectively to take a 26–16 lead into halftime. Unable to swing the momentum in their favor, the Dolphins fell 54–33, dropping to 5–9 overall.

Kyra Rose opened the scoring with a strong and-one play to give CSI a quick 3–0 lead. Post responded with consecutive baskets to take its first lead at 4–2, and the teams exchanged leads early before the Eagles went ahead 6–5 and maintained that advantage for the remainder of the contest. Racky Kane and Rose scored the final points of the opening quarter, with CSI trailing 10–8 after one.

Rose tied the game at 10 from the free-throw line early in the second quarter, but Post pulled away with a 13–2 run to build a 23–12 advantage. Shonyae Edmonds added a late basket for the Dolphins, sending CSI into halftime down 26–16.

The Dolphins turned in their strongest stretch in the third quarter, scoring 10 points on baskets from Rose, Kane, and Dana Phelan. Despite the effort, CSI surrendered 18 points in the frame and entered the fourth quarter trailing 44–26. The Dolphins were unable to close the gap in the final period, resulting in the 54–33 loss.

Rose led all scorers with 14 points and added six rebounds, Phelan finished with seven points, while Edmonds paced the Dolphins on the boards with seven rebounds.

CSI women's basketball will return to East Coast Conference play on Friday, traveling to Buffalo, NY to face D'Youville University at 5:30 PM.
