STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team, the No. 3 seed in the East Coast Conference, will host its first-ever home East Coast Conference (ECC) postseason game on Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00 PM. The Dolphins welcome No. 6 seed Roberts Wesleyan University to the Tank for the ECC First Round.

Dolphins Secure Season Sweep Over Redhawks

CSI swept the regular-season series against Roberts Wesleyan, extending its winning streak over the Redhawks to four games. Wednesday marks the third meeting between the teams this season.

In the first matchup on Jan. 24, the Dolphins dominated the opening half, taking a 52–32 lead into halftime. Although the Redhawks outscored CSI 41–40 in the second half, the early advantage propelled the Dolphins to a 93–73 victory. Eric Tynes and Aaron Goldstein combined for 10 of the team's 12 three-pointers, finishing with five apiece. Tynes led the team with 19 points, followed by Goldstein with 18. Asa Kone added 14 points, while Mitchell Wiggan recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The second meeting at the Tank on D2 Day (Feb. 22) followed a similar pattern. The Dolphins led 44–32 at halftime, but the Redhawks stormed back to cut the deficit to four and eventually tie the game at 49. CSI regained control late, highlighted by JJ Chestnut's 4-4 performance from the free-throw line and a key three-pointer from Goldstein that pushed the lead to double digits. The Dolphins secured the sweep with an 85–74 win. Goldstein led the way with 27 points, Chestnut and Tynes added 15 apiece, and Kone pulled down 14 rebounds.

Dolphins vs. Redhawks in the Postseason

This marks CSI's fourth consecutive ECC postseason appearance and its first opportunity to host a conference tournament game in the Division II era. The Dolphins are 1–0 against Roberts Wesleyan in postseason play, earning their first ECC tournament victory in 2025 with an 81–75 win in Rochester. Goldstein led the charge with 17 points, including five three-pointers, while Kone posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Goldstein and Chestnut Earn All-ECC Honors

Goldstein and Chestnut each received All-ECC recognition earlier this week, the first honors of their collegiate careers. Goldstein was named to the All-ECC First Team after leading the conference in scoring at 21.4 points per game, while Chestnut earned Second Team honors.

Chestnut's Historic Triple-Double

Last Saturday, Chestnut delivered a career-best performance in the regular-season finale, recording 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for his first collegiate triple-double. He became one of just 13 NCAA Division II players, and the second in the ECC, to accomplish the feat this season.

Individual Scoring Comparison

Goldstein leads the Dolphins in scoring (21.4 ppg), steals (41), and three-pointers made (85). Chestnut ranks second in scoring at 13.2 ppg and leads the team with 140 assists, just five shy of breaking the Division II single-season program record he set as a freshman (144 in 2022–23). Kone averages 12.0 points and leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per game, while Wiggan contributes 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest. Tynes averages 10.9 points per game and ranks second on the team with 61 three-pointers made.

Roberts Wesleyan features four double-figure scorers, led by a 15.3 ppg average, followed by 12.7, 12.0, and 10.1 points per game.
