AMHERST, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team competed in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Semifinals on Saturday afternoon against top-seeded Daemen University. The matchup served as a rematch of the 2024–25 ECC Championship game, in which the Dolphins previously fell to the Wildcats.
Daemen controlled the first half, holding CSI to just nine points in the opening quarter and building a 19-point lead by halftime.
The Dolphins' first points came on an and-one play by Shonyae Edmonds with just under three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Edmonds, Dana Phelan, and Kyra Rose each added baskets late in the frame, but the Wildcats maintained a 24-9 advantage heading into the second quarter.
CSI found more offensive rhythm in the second, scoring 17 points in the period, though the Wildcats continued to maintain control. Edmonds opened the scoring in the quarter with another basket in the paint, and Racky Kane followed with three consecutive points to keep the Dolphins within reach. Daemen pushed its lead to as many as 22 during the period before CSI trimmed the margin to 19 at the break.
The second half featured a more evenly contested battle. In the third quarter, the Wildcats narrowly outscored the Dolphins 15-14 to carry a 60-40 lead into the final period.
Facing a 20-point deficit, CSI made a strong push in the fourth quarter, outscoring Daemen 21-15. Rose sparked the rally, beginning the scoring in the frame before adding points at the free-throw line and inside the paint to cut the deficit to 15, 62-47. Later, Edmonds converted a pair of free throws to bring the Dolphins within 10, 68-58. Despite the late surge, the early deficit proved too large to overcome as the Wildcats secured the win and ended CSI's postseason run.
Rose led the Dolphins with 20 points, four assists, and two steals in the final game of her career. Edmonds recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds while adding three blocks. Kane finished with 14 points, and Phelan contributed 10 rebounds.
CSI concludes its season with a 12-18 overall record, including a 7-9 mark in ECC play.
