DOLPHINS DEFEATED IN FINAL CONTEST OF SERIES WITH KNIGHTS

FLUSHING, NY – The College of Staten Island baseball team concluded its East Coast Conference (ECC) regular season series against Queens College on Sunday afternoon at Hennekens Stadium.

Prior to first pitch, the teams resumed their suspended game from March 20, which resulted in an 8-7, nine-inning victory for Queens. With the result, the season series finished even at 3-3.

Due to inclement weather later in the day, the scheduled nine-inning contest was shortened to five innings, with the Dolphins falling 17-4 after a decisive second inning by the Knights.

Following a scoreless first inning, Queens erupted for 15 runs in the second to take a commanding 15-0 lead. CSI responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Jaden Waterman singled and JJ Hunter doubled to put two runners on. Vincent Weigele followed with a two-run hit to get the Dolphins on the board, cutting the deficit to 15-2.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third, but the Knights added two more runs across the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 17-2.

The Dolphins showed late fight in their final at-bat. Brandon Bartick led off with a single, and Jamel Vera delivered his third triple of the season to bring in a run. Vera later scored on a throwing error by Queens, accounting for the final margin.

Bartick led CSI offensively, going 2-2 at the plate, while Weigele drove in two runs. Vera and Michael Flashner each recorded an RBI, and Alex Martinez struck out three in his start on the mound.

The Dolphins (11-23, 6-16 ECC) return to action on Tuesday, hosting their Hometown Heroes Game against Felician University at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park at 7:30 PM.
