DOLPHINS HOST FOURTH ANNUAL HOMETOWN HEROES GAME AGAINST FELICIAN UNIVERSITY

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island baseball team hosted its fourth annual Hometown Heroes Game at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park on Tuesday night, facing Felician University in a non-conference matchup.

Prior to first pitch, the Dolphins honored the lives and legacies of four hometown heroes: Steve Sosa, Anthony Varvaro, Ronald Graboski, and Gordon Rugg.

CSI fell behind early, trailing 2-0 after the top of the first inning, but responded in the bottom half when JJ Hunter delivered an RBI single to score Jamel Vera and cut the deficit to 2-1. Felician answered with a five-run second inning to extend its lead to 7-1.

Ryan Ortega led off the bottom of the second with a double and later scored on an RBI from Vera to make it 7-2. The Dolphins loaded the bases later in the inning but were unable to capitalize further as the Golden Falcons held their advantage.

Felician added two more runs in the third, and both teams were held scoreless the rest of the way as the Dolphins fell, 9-2.

Vera finished 2-2 at the plate, while six other Dolphins recorded a hit. Vera, Ortega, and Brandon Bartick each doubled, and Vera and Michael Flashner added stolen bases. On the mound, Nick Marangelli led the pitching effort, striking out two in one inning of work.

The Dolphins (11-24) return to East Coast Conference play on Thursday, opening a four-game series against Mercy University with a single game in Dobbs Ferry, NY at 3:00 PM.
