BASEBALL BATTLES WITH MERCY TO IGNITE FOUR-GAME SERIES

DOBBS FERRY, NY – The College of Staten Island baseball team opened a four-game East Coast Conference (ECC) series against Mercy University on Thursday afternoon with a single game against the Mavericks.

The Dolphins held a 2-1 lead for much of the contest but surrendered three late runs, falling 4-2.

Mercy took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, but CSI responded in the second to take control. Jack Kehoe led off the inning with a single, and JJ Hunter followed with a double to left field to move him to third. Ryan Ortega tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center, and Brandon Bartick gave the Dolphins a 2-1 lead with an RBI single through the right side.

The game settled into a pitcher's duel from the third through the sixth innings before the Mavericks broke through in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game at 2-2. After a scoreless top of the eighth for CSI, Mercy capitalized in the bottom half with two runs to secure the 4-2 victory.

Ryan Palm tossed a complete game for the Dolphins, striking out one. Ortega and Bartick each recorded an RBI, while Hunter, Kehoe, Jamel Vera, and Vincent Weigele added one hit apiece.

The Dolphins (11-25, 6-17 ECC) return to Mercy Field on Friday afternoon as the home team for an ECC doubleheader against the Mavericks, with Senior Day festivities set to begin at 12:00 PM.
