COLONIE, NY – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team traveled to Colonie, NY, on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference matchup against No. 20 Saint Michael's College at Afrim's Sports Park. The Purple Knights came away with a 3-1 victory.
The Dolphins and Purple Knights met at a neutral site for the second time in the all-time series, with CSI serving as the designated home team for the day.
Saint Michael's controlled much of the offensive action throughout the afternoon, finishing with 25 shots compared to seven for the Dolphins. The Purple Knights scored three times in the opening half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Midway through the second half, Caitlyn Thompson was awarded a free kick from 40 yards out. Thompson sent the ball toward the net, finding the back of the net to put the Dolphins on the board and cut the deficit to 3-1. Thompson had another opportunity later in the half, attempting to chip the goalkeeper, but the shot was kept out.
Thompson led the Dolphins with three shots and the team's lone goal, while Sienna Patella followed with two shots. Oksana Zahirna made 13 saves in goal for CSI.
The College of Staten Island women's soccer team (1-4) will return to East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Saturday when the Dolphins travel to Rochester, NY, to face Roberts Wesleyan University at 1:00 PM.
