ROCHESTER, NY – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team traveled to Rochester, NY, on Saturday afternoon for an East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup against Roberts Wesleyan University. The RedHawks scored twice in the first half to hand the Dolphins a 2-0 defeat. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in ECC play.
The hosts applied pressure early, recording a shot on goal less than two minutes into regulation. Sara O'Donnell recorded the Dolphins' first shot attempt of the afternoon, but her attempt sailed wide right.
In the 14th minute, the RedHawks found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Caitlyn Thompson and Sienna Patella each followed with long shot attempts, but both were turned away by the Roberts Wesleyan goalkeeper.
As the first half neared its conclusion, the RedHawks continued to pressure the Dolphins, recording three consecutive shots. On their fourth attempt, the hosts found the back of the net again to extend their lead to 2-0, which they would carry into halftime.
The Dolphins recorded two shots in the second half, with Sabrina Dore and Patella each registering an attempt. CSI held the RedHawks scoreless throughout the final 45 minutes, but Roberts Wesleyan held on for the 2-0 victory.
Oksana Zahirna finished the afternoon with nine saves in goal. Thompson and Patella each recorded two shots, with both of Patella's attempts landing on goal.
The College of Staten Island women's soccer team will return to action at Dolphins Soccer Park next Saturday, Oct. 3, when they host Daemen University at 12:00 PM.
