10/1/2023 7:00:00 PM

Bronx, NY - After their scheduled appearance in Friday's Golden Eagles Invitational was wiped out by inclement weather, the College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team took part in the Queensborough Invitational earlier today.  Hosted by Queenborough Community College, the event featured a 5000-Meter Run for the women and a 5-Mile Run for the men.  For the Dolphins, it was their first-ever appearance in the meet since 2018 and their second outing of the 2023 season.

In the 5000-Meter, three members of CSI's women's squad finished in the top 25% of the field of over 130 runners.  Leading the way was Elizabeth Nicotra who finished in 12th overall with a time of 23:38.6.  Angelina Guerriero and Alexandrea Jackson each finished with times between 25 and 26 minutes taking 23rd and 26th place respectively.  Joined by Kafilat Yekinni and Emily Matatyaev, the team of five CSI runners who completed the race placed 9th in the field of 16 teams.

In the 5-Mile Run, the CSI men placed 5th in a field of 19 teams.  Wayne Stephenson and Jah Whyte each finished in the top 10 taking 7th and 8th place respectively.  Joining them in the top half of the field of 150 runners were Ethanael Elliott, Matthew Amato and Alan Bass.  Along with Jamel Reynolds, the six CSI runners averaged a time of 33:19 in their fifth-place effort.

The next meet for the Dolphins is scheduled for this upcoming Saturday October 7th when they team will participate in the Highlander Invitational.
