The College of Staten Island used a good initial surge then pulled away in the middle events, to score a lop-sided 152-77 win over SUNY-Maritime in a non-conference meet held in Maritime, NY, last night.
After taking the initial 200-yard Medley Relay event, Maritime coined a 1-point lead after two events, 18-17. CSI got back out in front in the 200-yard Freestyle, as Eros Qama, Michael Mino and newcomber Kenneth Murphy all placed to give CSI a 31-23 cushion. Qama's time of 1:51.14 marked a new CSI all-time record.
After CSI broke it open, 68-39, after six events, they continued down the stretch with impressive performances. Karim Hikal and Vadzim Zhgun took first and second in the 100-yard Butterfly event, as did Nick Levintov and William Gagliardi in the 100-yard Backstroke. Keith Cattonar added a pair of first place nods in diving, while senior Vlad Fedosseev continued his streak, notching his 16th and 17th first-place finishes in individual events in as many tries.
The win, CSI's fifth straight, gives the Dolphins a 5-1 overall record heading into their final regular season meet of the season, on Tuesday, January 30, against SUNY-Old Westbury, at 6pm.
