STATEN ISLAND, NY - The College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up their regular season schedule last week with a three-meet slate. The Dolphins faced Baruch College, Brooklyn College, and the University of Bridgeport, with the women earning two Northeast 10 (NE10) weekly awards and the men capturing one.
On the women's side, Maria Janecka was named NE10 Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, while Jacqueline DeFranco earned her third Diver of the Week honor. Janecka led the Dolphins in the pool, recording eight first-place finishes during the week, including six individual victories against Baruch and Brooklyn. Against Bridgeport, the freshman added two first-place finishes in meter events and a second-place result in a relay. Competing in both freestyle and butterfly events, her top times included a 25.43 in the 50 freestyle against Baruch, a 27.70 in the 50 butterfly against Brooklyn, and a 59.31 in the 100 butterfly, also against Brooklyn.
DeFranco competed in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events across the three meets and swept the competition with individual victories throughout the week. Against Baruch, she captured the 1M (11-dive) event with a score of 235.20 and the 3M (11-dive) with a score of 392.25. Two days later against Brooklyn, she posted scores of 243.05 in the 1M and 222.70 in the 3M, with both events consisting of 11 dives. To close out the regular season against Bridgeport, DeFranco competed in six dives in both the 1M and 3M, recording scores of 153.45 and 139.88, respectively.
On the men's side, Yubal Parra was the Dolphins' lone NE10 award recipient of the week, earning another conference Diver of the Week honor. Competing in both the 1M and 3M events, Parra performed six- and 11-dive formats throughout the week. He finished first in both events against Baruch and Brooklyn and placed second in both against Bridgeport. His first-place performances included 11-dive scores of 309.05 in the 1M and 537.25 in the 3M against Baruch, followed by scores of 331.85 in the 1M and 366.20 in the 3M against Brooklyn.
According to the USA Diving PDCA National Diving Polls & Power Rankings, Parra maintained his No. 1 national ranking in the 3-meter event and has moved into first place in the 1-meter event as well.
