The College of Staten Island men's soccer team fell to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark, 5-0, in a non- conference contest at the CSI Soccer Complex on Monday afternoon. The Dolphins dropped to a 2-8-1 overall record while the Scarlet Raiders peaked to a 7-6 overall record.
It took 22 minutes for a point to grace the board when Rutger's Jeff Vazquez took a long pass from Robert Campos to score. Less than 3 minutes later, Joe Caamano came off the bench to score off another pass from Campos. Vazquez struck again with back-to-back goals; with 2 minutes remaining off of a cross pass from Luis Valle then again with only a few seconds until the break, putting the score at 4-0.
Keeping the ball in their possession for most of the second half, Vasquez tallied one more goal at the 55 minute mark to seal it for the Raiders. A cross pass from Tom King put the ball to Vasquez's foot for a 5-0 finish for Rutgers.
CSI goalie Pavel Bespalov had eight saves while Kyle Perdelwitz of Rutgers had five saves.
Rutgers had 30 attempts with 13 on goal as compared to CSI's seven shots with five on goal.
The Dolphins will travel to John Jay College on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm contest.
