WOMEN GET BACK IN WIN COLUMN WITH VICTORY OVER NYCCT, 72-48

Box Score The College of Staten Island women's basketball team posted their second victory in their last three outings, getting a lop-sided, 72-48, victory over visiting New York City College of Technology in CUNYAC play at the Sports & Recreation Center this evening.  The win lifted the Dolphins to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play while the Yellow Jackets slipped to 3-10, 1-3, respectively.

Christine Jackson got the visitors started with a three-pointer on the very first possession, but CSI scored the next six points including a pair of lay-ups by Allie Shanahan and Katelyn Hepworth to put the Dolphins up for good, never looking back.  CSI shot a crisp 48.1% in the first stanza as NYCCT was plagued with just a 10-for-36 performance from the field in the first half, good for just 27.8%.

The Dolphins grabbed their first double-digit lead at 13:47 on an Olivia Tierno running lay-in to put the home squad up, 18-7, and the Dolphins extended to as many as 16 with 2:54 left on a pair of Rachel Rosado freebies.  A modest 6-1 NYCCT run, started by another Jackson trey, cut the halftime lead to 36-25 in CSI's favor.

The game see-sawed back-and-forth for the first 11 minutes of the second frame as CSI never led by as many as 15 and less than 11 as both teams traded baskets.  CSI finally pulled away thanks to a 13-3 run spanning 2:21 to go up 63-40 with exactly seven minutes to play.  The run was spearheaded by five points from Shanahan including a long-range three.  In the waning moments, CSI pulled up by as many as 27 on a Victoria Donegan jumper with 2:04 to play before NYCCT scored the final three points of the game.

CSI finished with a 50.9% shooting performance, led by Tierno's 23 markers on 9-of-14 shooting.  Shanahan added 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Hepworth finished with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.  For the Jackets, Jackson led all scorers with 24 points, while Quinique Dozier added 10 off of the bench.

The Dolphins will be back in action on Friday, traveling to Baruch College for a 5:30pm game in Manhattan.
