Baruch College scored decisive victories at both end of the pool tonight, turning back the College of Staten Island in both the men's and women's swimming and diving meets this evening at the Sports & Recreation Center in Staten Island. On the men's side, the Bearcats earned a 116-90 win, while the women prevailed, 114-92.
On the men's side, the Dolphins did most of their damage on the diving boards, as both
Andy Gil and
John Pignatelli swept the scoring in both the one and three meter competitions.
Yury Zimarev was another shining star, as the frosh picked up a couple of first place finishes in the 50 Freestyle (22.25) and 100 Butterfly (54.27). Fellow freshman
Rati Pruidze had a quality meet as well, picking up a second place faring in the 100 Freestyle (54.14) and a third place finish in 50 Freestyle competition (23.38).
Baruch took first place finishes in six events, including a pair each by George Martinez (1000 Freestyle, 10:49.39; 500 Freestyle, 5:21.93) and Gabriel Yanez (200 IM, 2:06.35; 400 Back. 57.88).
In the women's table, Baruch held a similar commanding lead and finished the meet by not scoring in the final three events. Before that, the Bearcats swept every first place event.
Elaina Lei (1000 Freestyle, 200 IM),
Vasiliki Stergioula (200 Freestyle), and
Stephanie Collyer (50 Free, 1M Diving) all took second place finishes for the Dolphins as part of the meet.
Both CSI programs will be back in action on Monday, November 22 at 6pm when they host SUNY-Maritime as part of non-conference competition.
