The College of Staten Island men's tennis squad dropped their second consecutive contest, falling hard to CUNYAC-rival Hunter College at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, 8-1. CSI fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the CUNYAC, while the Hawks lifted their marks to 7-1, 5-1, respectively.
Hunter left little to doubt in the match, going up 3-0 after doubles competition. At No. 2 Doubles, Yevgeny Perepelov and Bob Frischling-Sosma soared to an 8-1 win over CSI's
Riad Hamai and
Austin Kapetanakis, while at No. 3, the HC team of Damen Ellingson and Irving Salazaar were able to dismiss CSI's twosome of
Oscar Wu and Dimitriy Vituk, 8-3. The Dolphins did come close in the top spot, as the team of Nick Zikos and
Daniel Ursomanno were locked in a duel with HC's
Arthur Kapetanakis and Luis Quintero. Despite having to go 16 games, the Hawks were able to pull out a crucial 9-7 win, taking some wind out of the CSI sails.
When play shifted to singles, CSI's lone bright spot was Ursomanno at the No. 3 position, as he defeated Kapetanakis in a grueling 2-6, 6-3, 10-3, finish. CSI was only able to take 17 games in the remaining five flights, as Hunter was able to prevail in straight sets.
CSI will look to get back on track when they host York College on Saturday at 1pm.
