Box Score The College of Staten Island women's soccer team ran their season-opening unbeaten streak up to 13 games tonight, turning back visiting Sarah Lawrence College by an 8-0 count as part of non-conference play at the CSI Soccer Complex. CSI ran their record to 12-0-1 while the Gryphons fell to 1-8.
CSI registered early and never looked back, playing a total of 18 players while SLC was forced to start and play the game with just 10 active players. CSI took advantage early, as
Samantha Wysokowski netted her 18th goal of the year on a feed from sophomore
Deanna Kvetkoff, side-stepping the defense to get a shot past SLC keeper Sofie Jokela, who played the game's first 45 minutes in net. Less than six minutes later, at the 10:12 mark, CSI made it 2-0 on a goal from
Demi-Jean Martorano, who converted on a long cross from
Melissa Gelardi. Three minutes after that, Gelardi got one of her own, this time going solo on a breakaway after a forced turnover and lead pass from
Ashley Albanese. After 13 minutes, CSI was up, 3-0.
CSI would add two more goals in the first half. Wysokowski netted her second at 22:53, converting a sterling
Megan Burke pass into a goal, and at 32:56, Martorano tallied again after receiving a midfield pass in the box from
Kathryn Dowling.
The Dolphins didn't need much insurance, but got three more goals in the second half against new goalkeeper Bri Solo. Martorano completed the hat trick, putting one in on a virtual breakaway, fed from midfield by frosh
Senda Karagozler at 55:20. A little over two minutes later,
Natalie Tombasco scored her third of the season off of a header on a Martorano cross, and finally, at 75:41, Martorano completed tremendous day with a goal after a scramble in the box, assisted by Tombasco.
CSI led the shot count 23-5 (14-3 on goal), as CSI keeper
Victoria Donegan made all three saves for the shutout, her sixth of the year. Martorano's four goals put her into a tie for the team lead with Wysokowski with 19 apiece. She finished with a game-high 9 shots.
The Dolphins will be back in action on Tuesday, October 15, when they travel to Patchogue to face St. Joseph's College (LI) for a 7pm contest.
