Box Score The College of Staten Island women's soccer team's season long unbetaen streak almost came to an end as they just barely survived Tuesday night's double-overtime battle against St. Joseph's Long Island, finishing the evening with a 0-0 tie at the Outdoor Sports Complex.
With the tie against the Eagles, CSI saves the unbeaten-streak and improves its record to 12-0-2, allowing the Dolphins to continue their quest for an undefeated season. The only other tie of the season came back on Sept. 11, against New Jersey City, when CSI again posted a 1-1 tie in double-overtime.
The Dolphins were up against one of toughest defenses they have faced all season, keeping much of the play at midfield throughout the 110 minutes. Although the opportunities to break through the Eagles defense were limited,
Megan Burke and
Melissa Gelardi posted a team-high three shots each.
Offensively, the Eagles had the advantage as they outshot the Dolphins 38 to 8. However, on the defensive side of the pitch, it allowed CSI's
Victoria Donegan to post a career-high 19 saves on the evening.
CSI is having its best season in program history with a 12-0-2 record. With just five games left in the 2013 season before the conference tournament, the Dolphins are looking to finish the regular season with a perfect record.
The Dolphins return to action Sat., Oct. 19 at Medgar Evers College for it's last CUNYAC game that will count towards the conference standings.
