The College of Staten Island men's and women's cross-country continued its progression through the schedule this weekend, competing in the New Jersey Institute of Technology Invitational at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. The women did not field enough runners to place as a team, but the men came in 11th overall in field of 21 teams total.
In a race of 167 total runners, CSI was able to score a total of six racers. Yet again, the team was led by junior
Andrew Pate, who turned in a time of 28:32.26, the third fastest 8k time this season by a CSI runner, which was good for 41st overall in the field. A few beats behind was sophomore
Samuel Obisanya, who improved his time by almost three minutes from last week with a time of 29:28.61. Less than 19 seconds behind him was frosh
Justin Mills, who came in 73rd overall with a time of 29:46.78.
Fellow freshman Kenny Morella was next to cross for the Dolphins with a time of 30:53.60, and the Dolphins' fifth scorer was
Patrick Kettyle, who turned in a personal best 8k time of 33:07.90, beating his former mark by 1:15.
Shawn Cybulska also crossed with a time 37:47.10.
CSI's 11th place finish was second among CUNYAC schools (Hunter finished 8th), and the Dolphins finished fifth among Division III/Community College schools.
The CSI women did not score as a team, but the Dolphins did cross three runners.
Victoria Barry came in at 22:28.74 in the 5k race, her second fastest time in the 5k this season.
Jacqueline Jamaleddine also posted her second-best 5k effort, coming in at 23:47.22. Meanwhile, sophomore
Ayat Odeh shattered her former personal-best time by a hefty 2:35, coming in at 29:37.67.
CSI hosts its own Invitational on Saturday, October 12, at Clove Lakes Park. It will be a 5k race for both men and women. The women will race at 10am, while the men will go off at 11am.
