STATEN ISLAND, NY - It was a defensive battle between the College of Staten Island men's soccer team and Berkeley College of New Jersey as the two played a physical match that went into double-overtime only to end the evening in a 0-0 tie, Monday.
During the first 45 minutes of play, CSI managed to put up five shots against Berkeley, with two being saved by goalkeeper Pierce Langlois, who went on to record eight saves for the game. Not to be outshined was CSI goal keep
Antonio Lynch, who not only got his first start of the season, but registered three saves of his own.
The physicality of play between the two teams continued to rise during the second half of play as did the number of shots taken on each side. The Dolphins took eight shots alone in the second period, while the Knights posted four of their own. On the night, CSI outshot Berkeley-NJ, 18-to-8.
Leading the way for the Dolphins was
Nicholas Bacarella, who took six shots on the night (3 SOG), followed by
Alfonso Castaneda with three shots, including two on goal.
The College of Staten Island men's soccer team travels to FDU-Florham to take on the Devils, Sat., Sept., 21, at 4pm.
