The College of Staten Island men's and women's swim teams both got their necessary wins tonight against York College. The men needed a win to clinch the CUNYAC Regular Season Championship and complete their undefeated record in the CUNYAC, the men have improved to 4-0 in the CUNYAC and 6-2 overall. The women needed to win to improve to 4-2 in the CUNYAC and 6-4 overall to have a chance to enter third place with the hopes that Brooklyn lose to Baruch on Monday.
This meet was heavily one-sided for both the men and women tonight. The Dolphins captured all 26 first-place finishes in the meet easily taking the wins. Tim Sweeney had a very good night as he led the men with 27 points followed by
Derek Villa,
John Pignatelli, and
Stephen O'Driscoll all with 18 points. The women were led by
Samantha Escobedo,
Jessica Pifalo,
Stephanie Collyer,
Lauren Overeem, and Adrianne Vivas who all had 18 points.
Pignatelli dominated the 1meter Diving competition with a score of 225.75 followed by teammate Matt Gallo with a score of 176.25.
In her second meet of the season Escobedo showed that she is one of the premier swimmers on the team as she took first place in all three of her events which included 50 yard Freestyle, 100 yard Freestyle and the 200 yard Freestyle Relay.
CSI will now look to continue the roll, hosting Adelphi University this Tuesday, January 14th, at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center at 6:45pm.
