Staten Island, NY |
Philip Lefkowitz and the Dolphins finished the regular season undefeated in the CUNYAC, going a perfect 8-0 after defeating Baruch College 4-0 this afternoon at the CSI Soccer Complex. A brace and a pair of assists by Lefkowitz was more than enough as Staten Island cruised past Baruch to improve to 13-3, 8-0 while Baruch dropped to 7-5-3, 5-1-2.
The Dolphins put on yet another strong performance to close out conference play this afternoon against second-place Baruch College. Staten Island made a statement by winning 4-0 and it didn't take long for them to find their way onto the scoreboard. Just 11 minutes after the opening whistle, Lefkowitz was able to find
Carlos Montesinos with a tricky flick pass, that slipped through a pair of Bearcat defenders. Montesinos was able to angle himself and send a low curling ball into the left side netting for the opening goal of the game. The assist was Lefkowitz's 14 assist of the season, tying the nation's leader.
Just 50 seconds later, the Dolphins would strike again. This time it was Lefkowitz striking the ball into the back of the net.
Bryant Navarro picked out Lefkowitz with a pass for a nice shot towards net that skipped between Kellen Sela's legs. CSI's strong start would cool off but they would still maintain control of the game and hold Baruch to just one shot in the first half while firing off 11 of their own. Staten Island was comfortable on the ball on their home field all game and a majority was played in Baruch's final third as they collected any loose ball.
Lefkowitz would double his total in the 32nd minute after beating a couple of Bearcats and curl his shot from the left side of the box into the right side netting, tallying his 11th of the season. Lefkowitz wasn't done picking apart Baruch College just yet. He would add another assist when he sent in a cross to the back post which found
Joe Bolella who was able to volley it into the back of the net and give Lefkowitz his 15th assist of the season.
Neither team threatened in the second half as the Dolphins were content just holding possession. CSI took just six shots in the second half while once again holding Baruch to just one. The Bearcats could not crack the Dolphins' vault and were held scoreless for the fifth time this season.
The Dolphins have just one game remaining on their schedule which is on October 22 when they travel to Jersey City, NJ to take on New Jersey City University at 4:00 pm.
