Newark, NJ | In what was the most-populated race of the season for the Dolphins, the College of Staten Island men's and women's cross-country teams earned high marks at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park in Newark. The CSI women produced a 16th place result among the 29 Division II & III schools, while the men earned the same result among 31 Division II & III teams. CSI's race results do not include a total of seven schools that participated from NCAA Division I schools.
Of the 227 runners in the women's 5k race, CSI's
Tristiana Adragna was the Dolphins' first finisher, ccoming in at 21:51 for 85th overall in the field. N'Zinga Duverney-Beavers was next in for CSI, putting up a time of 22:55, good for 113th overall and the top half of the race overall.
Rachel Edmonds was CSI's next up, coming in at 23:16 good for 122nd.
Deavion Brown came in at 24:09 for 136th.
Veronica Lorenzo was CSI's final scorer, putting up a 26:22 faring for 170th overall. CSI's other finisher included
Jolisa Wright (32:45).
The University of Lock Haven (D2) won the event overall with 30 points, with St. Thomas Aquinas taking second and Felician College pulling third. The first-place Division III finishers were St. Joseph's College of LI, who came in fourth place overall. Of the four CUNYAC schools entered, CSI came in first, over rivals John Jay College, CCNY, and Medgar Evers College.
The CSI men ran an 8k at Branch Brook and equally put up impressive times en route to a 16th-place finish. A total of 239 racers were on hand for the men's race, and
Liam McMunn led the way for the second week in a row for CSI with a run of 29:14, good for 67th overall. Just a few beats behind was freshman
Spencer Milito, who posted a strong time of 29:25, good for 71st overall. Posting in 119th position was
Jaron Thompson for CSI, who came in at 31:57 and he was followed closely by
Erik Sanchez, who came in at 32:32 and in 127th. CSI's final scorer was
Justin Fernandez, who posted a quality run of 33:26, good for 141st. Other CSI finishers were,
Daniel Palmieri (34:21),
Trevin Robinson (35:29),
Wilson Esguerra (38:33),
Adebayo Animashaun (38:56) and
Canaan Rodriguez (38:58).
The University of Lock Haven also won the men's race with 18 points, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas and CCNY. CSI also finished behind Lehman College, but finished ahead of CUNYAC-rivals John Jay College, York College, and Medgar Evers College.
CSI's final meet before the CUNYAC Championships will be at the St. Joseph's College (LI) Invitational on Saturday, October 13.
