Staten Island, NY |
Philip Lefkowitz and
Joe Bolella both scored a brace in the 5-0 win over John Jay College at the CSI Soccer Complex under blue skies this afternoon. The win improves the Dolphins to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC while the Bloodhounds stumble to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the CUNYAC.
It didn't take long for the Dolphins to find their way onto the scoreboard this afternoon as Lefkowitz was able to put the ball in the back of the net just 56 seconds after the opening whistle. A pass from
Bryant Navarro fount Lefkowitz in the middle of the box which allowed him to power it past Steven Towler. The Dolphins moved the ball around in John Jay's final third comfortably throughout the game and with that possession came another goal.
11:56 into the game
Joe Bolella was able to sneak by the right back for the Bloodhounds and connect with a through ball by
Macki Dougoune. Bolella took one touch to compose himself before slotting it underneath an outstretched Towler for the second goal of the game. The pair of goals began to wear on John Jay's back line and because of that pressure, the conceded another goal just eight minutes later.
Bryant Navarro, the Dolphins' leading goal scorer, found himself on the end of a rebound for an easy tap-in to bring the Dolphins up to a 3-0 over their CUNYAC opponents.
As the game wore on it became more and more physical, resulting in an uptick of fouls. Despite the physical play, there were only two yellow cards issued throughout the game. For John Jay, it was Juan Nieto in the 34th minute and
Chris Li in 74th for Staten Island. Lefkowitz was nearly unstoppable today when he had the ball at his feet and peppered Towler with seven shots.
Once again, the Dolphins would strike early in the second half.
Mike Arellanes started the play by beating his defender down the right flank and sent a low-driven cross into the box which found
Breny Salas who one-timed passed it to Lefkowitz who was able to blast it into the back of the net. Bolella was about to double his tally later in the game when Lefkowitz was the one to beat the left back and send a cross into the box.
Carlos Montesinos was able to flick it to Bolella who knocked it into the back of the net.
The chances for John Jay were few and far between this afternoon as any threating attack was dispelled by the Dolphins' defense or
Christian Carucci cleaning up any loose balls in his box. Carucci was called upon only three times this afternoon in a full 90 minutes of action.
The Dolphins will not put their win streak on the line on Monday when they travel to Newark, NJ to take on Rutgers-Newark. The Dolphins and Raiders squared off last season at the CSI Soccer Complex but the result did not favor the Dolphins so they will look for revenge on Monday night.
