Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island cruised past CUNYAC opponents, York College this afternoon via 16-1 final score. Three different Dolphins picked up a hat-trick en route to their largest margin of victory ever under Head Coach,
John Tardy. The win bumps the Dolphins up to 8-3 and 4-0 in the CUNYAC while the Cardinals drop to 1-8-1 and 0-3-1 in the CUNYAC.
The 16 goals scored by the Dolphins this afternoon is a CSI record for most goals scored in a single game. CSI fired off 44 shots in the rout while allowing York to have just seven shots.
Chris Vendra was the first to put his name into the stat sheet with a goal just five minutes into the game. Vendra unleashed a long driven shot that flew past the Johan Bermeo and into the back of the net. It would be 11 minutes before the Dolphins unleashed a flurry of goals upon the Cardinals.
Mike Arellanes picked up his second goal of the season after he was able to clean up a rebound in front of the net.
CSI kept the pressure on which allowed
Bryant Navarro to add to his team-leading goal total. The Dolphins never took their foot off of the gas pedal as they continued to possess the ball in Cardinal territory.
Joe Bolella made it 4-0 in the 21st minute after Mamadou Balde received a red card for a foul inside the penalty area. Bolella would convert the penalty with ease for his 10th goal of the season.
Philip Lefkowitz poured in a hat-trick in a 14-minute span, increasing his goal total to 8 on the year.
York's defensive line struggled all day with CSI's fast pace attack and
Carlos Montesinos, much like Lefkowitz was able to capitalize. Montesinos scored all three of his goals in the second half bumping his season total up to five.
Breny Salas has proved time and time again that he is effective while in the game. Salas sits fourth on the team with seven goals but has started just two games and played 526 minutes.
In the 73rd minute, the Cardinals caught a break, as a York player was fouled inside the box and awarded a penalty kick. For
Jake Foeldes this was all too common as he was in net just five days ago facing a penalty kick. Foeldes was unable to stop Ivan Brito's penalty kick attempt which prevented the Dolphins from securing a shutout.
Jhair Larrea and
Alex Sosa also found the back of the net this afternoon as Larrea converted earlier on in the game while Sosa added a brace in the second half.
Oscar Torres got the start in between the pipes for the Dolphins and was only called upon to make one save.
The Dolphins will return to action on October 3 where they will travel to Brooklyn College at 4 pm for another CUNYAC contest.
