Staten Island, NY | A few weeks ago, the College of Staten Island women's cross-country squad claimed their first first-place showing at a multi-team Invitational in 11 years. Today, the Dolphins did it again, claiming the top finish at their very own 6K Invitational at Clove Lakes Park this morning. There were plenty of highlights with the men's team as well, as despite a team finish, a pair of runners earned top 10 medals.
CSI's annual race commenced at 10:00 am, and the women were in top form from start to finish. CSI finished with 46 points, a good distance from second-place Brooklyn College with 70 points and Drew University ith 80 points.
Kingsborough Community College's Tyesha James finished first overall in the race with a time of 24:27.8, but not too far behind was CSI's
Tristiana Adragna, who finished fourth overall, and second in scoring with a great race time of 26:20.7. Right behind Adragna was freshman
Brittani Broderick, who had a tremendous finish of 27:03.6, as she was CSI's second Top 10 finisher.
CSI was able to keep their scoring low with a great finish from
Rachel Edmonds, who popped in a 13th-place finish with a time of 27:44.8.
Deavion Brown also put up a great time, posting a 30:06.0 race, good for 20th overall, and 14th among the scorers.
N'Zinga Duvereney-Beavers was CSI's final scoring runner, coming in at 31:00.4 for 23rd overall.
Finalizing the racers on the women's side were
Victoria DeBernardo (25:34.5, 36th), and
Jolisa Wright (36:00.4, 38th).
At 11:00 am, the CSI men would have their turn on the course, participating in an 8K. Unfortunately, due to multiple runners misreading the course at different junctures, there was a determination made to not count any of the team scoring this afternoon. Otherwise, CSI turned in a terrific race, setting themselves up for what likely should have been a second-place finish.
For the first-time this season, senior
Liam McMunn led the way for the Dolphins, as he landed a sensational time of 32:11.1 on the familiar course, good for 10th overall (9th among countable runners).
Following closely behind McMunn was freshman
Spencer Milito, who continued his fine form with a run of 32:35.1, good for 12th overall.
Jaron Thompson was next in line with a 35:29.8 time, good enough for 21st overall and 14th among the scorers.
Erik Sanchez continues to cut his timed down, pitting in a run of 35:39.1, good for 24th. CSI's final countable scorer was
Ahmed Khodir, rounding out a time of 37:03.7 for 31st, among the 86 runners.
Other CSI runners today were
Daniel Palmieri (38:33.2, 39th),
Trevin Robinson (39:19.7, 42nd),
Justin Fernandez (40:43.0, 51st),
Wilson Esguerra (41:30.4, 54th), and
Canaan Rodriguez (45:13.3, 65th).
With a full head of steam, CSI will brace themselves for their next invitational hosted by the New Jersey Institute of Technology at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ, on Saturday, October 6, at 10:00 am.
