Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS ATTACK COMES ALIVE LATE AS THEY DOWN BARUCH, 3-0

Staten Island, NY  |  The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team took the field at the CSI Soccer Complex as the road team today and remained perfect against the CUNYAC in 2019 with a 3-0 victory over Baruch College.  After neither team was able to score through the first sixty-eight minutes, the Dolphins, now 9-5-1 following the win, were able to ride a late-game offensive surge to drop Baruch to 6-9-1.

The Dolphins seized control the game early as the game's first seven shot attempts belonged to them with the first shot of the game for Baruch not coming until the 34'.  That first shot of the game for Baruch was followed by another four attempts by CSI giving them eleven in the opening period.  The Bearcats did register one last shot attempt in the closing minutes of half number one, but it became the second of two first-half saves for Dolphins goalkeeper Jake Foeldes.

Scoreless following the break, it was more of the same when play resumed as the Dolphins once again tallied the first seven shot attempts of the half.  However, they remained locked in a scoreless tie with the Bearcats, not attempting their first shot of the frame until the 61'.  This was the first of two Bearcat shot attempts in the half, both of which were off target.

Despite a plethora of chances to get ahead, the Dolphins didn't cash in until the 69' when Carlos Montesinos scored for the fifth time this season following a Dolphins corner kick.  Now leading 1-0, the Dolphins back line took their turn getting involved on the attack when Ryan Layman's cross found Mohammedou Sow in the box where he connected on his first goal of 2019.  Now firmly in control, the Dolphins second-half dominance continued when Daniel Angulo scored for the third time this year on the receiving end of a feed across the box from Philip Lefkowitz.  This prompted a wave of Dolphins subsittutions to wrap up the match as CSI was able to coast to the finish and a 3-0 victory.

After holding an 11-2 advantage in shots entering the second half, the Dolphins were able to extend that disparity to 30-4 the remainder of the way.  The goal by Montesinos moves him into sole possession of second on the team in goals scored while the assist for Lefkowitz gives him sole possession of the team lead in that category.  The assist for Layman was his second and Sow's goal is his first as a Dolphin.  For Baruch, they will move on to play in the CUNYAC tournament as the number three seed while the Dolphins, ineligible for postseason play as a provisional NCAA Division II member, will complete 2019 with a perfect record 8-0 against the CUNYAC.  With today's 3-0 result, the Dolphins make it 68 goals for and only 3 goals against in games against CUNYAC opponents through the past two years during the regular season.

The Dolphins will take the field one final time in 2019 when the take on Felician University under the lights this Wednesday night at 7:30.
