Jamaica, NY | It proved to be a very fruitful night for the College of Staten Island Cheerleading team, as they prevailed over the field at the annual CUNYAC Cheerleading Championships held at York College this evening in front of a large audience. For the second-straight year the Dolphins dazzled, scoring the most points and winning the CUNYAC Championship for the fourth time in their history, and for the first time ever, in back-to-back fashion.
Performing towards the end of the evening, the Dolphins' routine was sensational, as the team turned tumbles and stunted often during their short routine that they prepared for weeks. With high-flying acrobatics and a great choreographed set, CSI was able to score more points than their competitors at John Jay College, Lehman College, Brooklyn College and Medgar Evers College. CSI finished with a total score of 69.3 points. Borough of Manhattan Community College was next line line with 53.45 points, with John Jay placing third with 43.40 points. Brooklyn (34.8) and Medgar Evers (32.6) also scored.
CSI fared just as well in individual competitions too. In the Stunt competition, CSI won the event with 73.1 points, followed by Lehman's 59.7, John Jay's 52.7 and BMCC's 48.3 points. In Tumbling, CSI topped all participants again with a score of 17.8 points, followed by Medgar Evers with 14.3, and BMCC and Brooklyn with 12.5. In the final Jumping category, CSI was aces again with 17.8 points, followed by BMCC with 16.6, Lehman with 15.4, John Jay with 14.2, Medgar Evers with 13.6, and Brooklyn with 8.8.
The Dolphins were led by flyer
Alyssa Dunn, who took Most Valuable Performer honors, as she took championship wins in stunting and tumbling individual events as well.
For the Dolphins, the Championship joins ones that they won in 2003, 2012, and 2018.
