Union, NJ | The College of Staten Island Women's Swimming team was in action tonight, taking part in a 12-event meet at Kean University. Despite their best effort, Kean swept the events en route to a 100-73 win to improve their overall mark to 5-6. The Dolphins slipped to 5-4.
Kean was a little over seven seconds faster in the first event of the evening, the 200-yard Medley Relay, and that set the tone for the rest of the match as the Dolphins couldn't gain much ground from there. CSI's
Cecelia Mauro earned a second place finish in the 1,000-yard Freestyle, and
Melissa Poggioli did the same in the 200-yard Freestyle, but after three events CSI was behind, 32-14.
After Kean took first-second-third in the 50-yard Freestyle, CSI's
Sabella Vaserman took a third-place finish in the 200-yard Individual Medley, then came right back and claimed second in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 1:08.44.
After a second-place finish by
Kathleen Bridgman in the 100-yard Freestyle at 1:03.56, CSI's
Gabriella Bartley and
Sahra Banja claimed third and fourth in the 100-yard Backstroke.
From there Kean had the meet in hand, so they conceded the final three events to CSI in terms of points, as Mauro took a second-place finish in the 500-yard Freestyle at 6:32.16, and
Lisnette Solano took third in the 100-yard Breaststroke at 1:21.63. To conclude the meet, CSI scored two relay finishes, as the foursome of Bridgman, Poggioli,
Bridget Mulvey and Bartley scored a 1:58.11 finish over CSI's B-Relay of
Mariya Alyokhina,
Victoria Musarella, Mauro, and
Djulieta Gatman's 2:08.11.
The CSI Women will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host both Brooklyn College and John Jay College at The Tank at 5 PM.
