Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball team continued their season-long win streak tonight, scoring a defensive, 52-39, win over York College at The Tank, competing the two-game season sweep over the Cardinals. CSI improved to 13-8 overall this season, while York fell to 7-13.
Points were at a premium in this one, especially in the first half as both teams struggled under the defensive pressure and were guilty of several turnovers. The Dolphins used a strong third quarter to put distance between the sides, ultimately taking a 13-point win.
The Dolphins did not get their first basket until midway through the first quarter, as
Kayla Schmitter gave CSI a slim 5-4 advantage with 5:02 left. That sparked a string of six lead changes through the first ten minutes, that finally ended when
Jada Rogers buried a jumper to give CSI an 11-10 lead. Rogers would add another basket with 42 ticks remaining to extend CSI to a 13-10 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes.
A little less than four minutes into the second quarter, CSI extended the lead to six points, an yet another Rogers lay-up to make it 19-13. The Dolphins, however, would only score three more points over the next six minutes, going 0-10 from the floor with three turnovers as CSI was only able to hang on for a 22-21 lead at intermission. A Mac-Dege Dessources jumper for York was the catalyst for the team being down only one at the break.
After a sluggish start to the third frame, CSI and York were deadlocked at 26-26 with 6:05 to go in the third quarter.
Diana Todaro responded with a bucket to give CSI a lead on the ensuing drive and CSI never trailed or tied again. A lay-up by

Deidre Foster added to the lead, and after York nailed a couple of free-throws, CSI finished the frame on a 7-1 run, highlighted by two Foster lay-ins and a three from Rogers.
From there, CSI was able to spar back-and-forth and keep their double-digit advantage. Two Ellma Hodzic freebies cut CSI's lead to 45-35 with 4:22 left, but CSI answered the call and went on a 7-0 run over the next three minutes to put the game very much out of reach.
CSI was held in check offensively, shooting just 31% from the field (18-58) and just 1-16 from three-point range (1-16). The team was led by Rogers' 14 points, just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Foster had 12 points and four rebounds. For York, Dessources led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds. York shot a chilly 14-52 from the floor, good for 26.9%.
