Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer team hosted the University of Bridgeport this afternoon on Senior Day in the inaugural meeting between the two sides. Ahead of kickoff, the Dolphins recognized their trio of graduating players, Tarik Eastman, Bryant Navarro, and Breny Salas. However, the positivity for the Dolphins ended with the Senior Day celebration as they fell to the Purple Knights by a score of 3-0. With the defeat, the Dolphins finish the 2021 season 3-12-2 overall, 1-7-1 against the East Coast Conference. The Purple Knights wrap up the season 5-6-5 overall, 5-2-2 in conference play.  

KEY MOMENTS

The Purple Knights struck first in the opening minutes after a long pass bounced around among several players before finding the foot of Hannes Nilsson. Nilsson was finally able to corral it and put it past Omer Hamzacebi for the game's first goal.  Leading 1-0 with seven minutes to play in the half, a Chigozie Okorie corner kick found the head of Ozar Razo who sent it behind Hamzacebi and in to put Bridgeport ahead by a pair. The game's final score would come on a penalty kick after Hamzacebi committed a foul on Jesse Clark in the penalty area. Clark also took the penalty kick and was barely able to beat the diving Hamzacebi inside of the post for the game's last goal.   

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Bridgeport held the advantage across nearly every statistical category including shots, corner kicks, and fouls. In yet another physical game, there were five yellow cards issued, three against Bridgeport and two against CSI. Jahmali Peterson was also issued a red card after a hard tackle in the closing minutes. 

DOLPHINS OF THE GAME

Today's Dolphins of the game make up the pair of CSI Seniors that played in today's match. Breny Salas and Bryant Navarro played the final match of their careers today and provided an early spark for the Dolphins' attack once the action got started. It was a cross from Salas to Navarro that set up a header that traveled just wide in the opening minutes for one of CSI's best scoring chances.
