Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

TIME RUNS OUT ON DOLPHINS COMEBACK IN LOSS TO GOLDEY-BEACOM, 71-67

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team was back on the court for the second time in forty-eight hours as they dropped tonight's non-conference matchup with the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning, 71-67.

KEY MOMENTS

Kaia Johnson got the CSI offense off to a strong start as she scored the first five Dolphin points to give her team a 5-1 lead in the opening minutes. Despite the early CSI lead, the Lightning would quickly tie the score at seven, one of three ties in the quarter, and led by one point at the end of the first. Much like in the first quarter, the Dolphins got off to a good start in the second and led by five less than two minutes into the quarter. The Lightning quickly tied the score at seventeen following a 5-0 run, but a 9-1 Dolphins run put CSI ahead by eight. Once again, the Lightning answered, this time with an 11-2 run to close the half back in front by one. The second half saw twenty-two fouls called against Goldey-Beacom, but the Lightning overcame the whistles against them at the offensive end. They took the lead at the 4:29 mark in the third, this time for good. Their lead got as large as fifteen with 4:35 left to play and was eleven with forty-six seconds remaining, but the Dolphins staged a furious comeback bid that saw them pull to within two on an Ashley Lambert three-pointer. However, the Dolphins were left with .2 seconds on the clock as time ran out on the comeback attempt.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Both teams shot the ball above the 40% mark, but neither team was able to find their rhythm from beyond the arc, each shooting under 30%. The two sides also combined for 44 turnovers, most coming in a very sloppy first half. No stat stood out more than the 28 fouls committed by Golden-Beacom. This resulted in 34 CSI free throws, but the Dolphins only hit 65% of them.

DOLPHIN OF THE GAME

Noemia Massingue earns Dolphin of the Game honors behind a 13 point, 9 rebound performance. Massingue played 35 minutes as she continues to see an expanded role as a part of the starting lineup.
