Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field teams will start their season on Friday, December 3
rd in Staten Island's Ocean Breeze Track Complex. Along with CSI, many schools from all divisions, will be starting their season at Staten Island's Fasttrack Season Opener that is set to start at 4:00 PM. The Dolphins will compete in seven invitationals for the 2021-22 Indoor Track & Field season before wrapping up the season at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Indoor Track & Field Championships in February of 2022.
On the field, The Dolphins will be competing in shotput, weight throw and long jump. On the track, CSI will be competing in the 60, 200, 400, 800, 1 Mile, and 5000 meter races. The men will also compete in the 4x400 meter relay race as team starting on Friday's Fasttrack Opener. Like many teams this year, it has been a long wait to get back to competing again and for CSI their last time on a track competing again was in March of 2020. The Dolphins has been chomping at the bit to get back to competing again. It also helps that many of the student-athletes on the Indoor Track & Field teams were also on the Cross-Country teams that just finished their season in late October and are warmed up in terms of conditioning.
Third year Head Coach,
Andrew Gangemi believes he has a good mix of youth and experienced veterans on the men's roster this year. On the men's squad, there are seniors
Jordan Thompson, Olatian Okeowo, Idrissa Sam Kabba,
Spencer Milito,
Ahmed Khodir, and
Daniel Palmieri who will look to finish out their final season on a high note. Milito will also be the lone Dolphin to race in the 5000-meter (3.1 miles) race starting on Friday. Under classmen Samuel Pope,
Christian Fernandez,
Vincent Ohenhen, and
Kyle Quesada look to spearhead the youth movement for the Dolphins starting with Friday's season opener.
The women's squad has a lot of youth with only a few players returning from the 2019-20 season. Freshmen throwers
Skylar Pointer and
Ava Thompson competed at an elite level on during their high school careers as they look forward to competing at the collegiate level. Jack of all trades,
Florentina Lonati, will demonstrate her prowess in the jumps and throwing events. On the track,
Caitlyn Burns,
Julia Calvo,
Emily Albano,
Alexandrea Jackson,
Anesia Marin, and
Hailey Caruso will all make their indoor track debut as a collegiate student-athlete.
"We are ecstatic to get back to competing in the indoor circuit again. Our student-athletes have had great training sessions since day one this season and we are looking forward to seeing the results pay off." Said Gangemi, commenting on his outlook for the 2021-22 Indoor Track & Field Season.
