Queens, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball team picked up their second win of the season this evening when they defeated fellow CUNY institution and East Coast Conference (ECC) rival Queens College, 67-64. The win, the second straight for CSI, is the first against a conference opponent this season and improves their record to 2-5 overall (1-1 ECC). Tonight's loss for the Knights came in their conference opener and drops them to 2-3 overall (0-1 ECC) on the season.
KEY MOMENTS
The two teams battled back-and-forth in a very competitive first half that saw Queens take the lead into the half by just two points, 31-29. The second half began in similar fashion, but the Dolphins ultimately seized control and led by eight, 45-37, with just under thirteen minutes left to play. However, the Knights were able to maintain their composure and took the lead back, 54-52, with just six minutes remaining in the game. It wasn't until a missed free-throw that led to a CSI fast break layup by,
Chris Velasquez that the Dolphins regained the lead, 60-58, this time for good. Now leading by two with 2:24 to play, CSI was able to come up with the key stops and made free-throws necessary to close out the three-point victory, 67-64.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
CSI was able to pull away in the second half behind their stellar shooting during the final 20 minutes, 50% from the field and 62.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Dolphins offensively was
Bryce Waterman scoring 19 points.
Messiah Mallory also scored in double-figures once again with 14 points and came just one rebound shy of a double-double with 9.

Tonight's Dolphin of the game dropped 19 points and has seen a steady rise in his shooting numbers over the last several games. In addition to scoring 19 points
Bryce Waterman shot an efficient 7-12 from the field including 5-9 from downtown. He was also tied for the team lead in minutes played with 35, just slightly above his season average.
