SOFTBALL DOWNED BY D'YOUVILLE IN ECC PAIR

Buffalo, NY | It was a tough go of it for the College of Staten Island Softball team today, as they were downed in a pair of East Coast Conference contests against D'Youville College on road by scores of 10-0 and 8-1.  The wins helped D'Youville to take the season series against the Dolphins, 4-0, and they lifted their records to 10-12 overall and 5-11 in the ECC, while CSI, which is now on a sox-game slide, fell to 4-14 both overall and in the conference

GAME ONE
The Saints made short work of the Dolphins in the opener, as the game was ultimately called after five innings, thanks to the home side racing out to a 10-0 lead after the first three frames.  After D'Youville starter Lauren Booth retired the Dolphins in order in the first, the Saints plated six runs in their first hacks.  Rachel Colan started the scoring with an RBI double that plated Maddy Pepke who started the frame with a walk issued by CSI starter Nicole Rivera.  Jamie Bower then followed with another double to score Colan, and after a CSI error, Carly Milleville hit another two-bagger to continue the scoring.  Maeve Finney would add a two-RBI single to account for the scoring.

Another run would cross in the second frame thanks to a Colan lead off triple and a single by Bower, and after CSI went down in order again in the third, the Saints added three more, highlighted by an inside-the-park home run by Pepke.

A couple of errors by the Saints marred would would have been a perfect game, but still, Booth was able to record a no-hitter, facing 17 batters overall for the win.  D'Youville finished with 12 hits, three of the bat of Bower, who went 3-3 with three RBI.

GAME TWO
The second offering between the sides went the distance, but CSI was still made to come back as D'Youville rode an early lead to victory.

Despite  a pair of hits, CSI could not scratch away a run against Saints starter Alexa Haberer, and when the home team got its turn in the first, they would score the go-ahead run off of CSI starter Jaclyn Kateridge, using a Milleville triple and then a Colan double to do the trick.  CSI went down in order in the second, and DYC grew the lead in their turn at the plate in the inning.  Loading the bases with two away, Mikaela Milleville hit the bit strike, a bases-clearing double to make it a 4-0 game before Kateridge would wiggle out of the inning.

After a scoreless third, CSI finally got on the board in the fourth.  Claudia Porcaro started it off with a lead off double, advancing on a fly ball to third.  Kateridge then helped her own cause with an infield single that chased in Porcaro to make it 4-1.  Haberer would settle, however, to record the final two outs in the frame to keep CSI at bay.  After a scoreless fourth for DYC, the Saints then used the fifth to seemingly put the game on ice.  With the bases jammed again, Carly Milleville came through with a three-RBI triple, and she would then come around to make it an 8-1 game.  That score would stand as Haberer tossed a scoreless final two innings to close things out.

The final line for Haberer in the win was seven innings, having yielded six hits wih three k's.  Mikaela Milleville finished 3-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored while Carly Milleville went 1-3 with three RBI.  Colan and Ava Miller each had two hits.  Kateridge went 2-3 in the second game with an RBI.

CSI will now be idle until Thursday, April 29, when they host Bridgeport at the CSI Softball Complex for a 3:00 PM doubleheader to extend ECC play.
