The College of Staten Island Athletic Department has named former Post University Head Coach Tracey Garofalo as its new Softball Head Coach in the summer of 2021

Garofalo was the Head Coach of the Post University Softball Team for 15 seasons, where she helped develop an Eagles unit that improved in a host of offensive and defensive categories throughout her tenure. Garofalo's primary responsibilities included devising game strategies and scouting, along with comprehensive recruiting in-line to meet the University's academic and athletic thresholds.
 
Drawing upon her extensive coaching experience, Graolafo is eager to lead similar growth of the CSI Softball program and help usher in a return to normalcy.  Garofalo also brings with her experience in the NCAA compliance world at the Division II levels having served as Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Success at Post University alongside her coaching duties.​

CassHS24Cassidy Petrie
Assistant Coach

Cassidy Petrie joined the Softball coaching staff in 2021 Assistant Coach.  Petrie has been playing softball since the age of five and brings with a wealth of experience.  She states her biggest accomplishment as a coach would be assisting Head CoachTracey Garofalo in building the CSI Softball Program and turning it into a competitive program in Division 2 Softball.
 
“The most rewarding thing is getting to work with and develop our players’ skills and watching them succeed on and off the field,” said Petrie.  “As a student/player, my biggest accomplishments include being a four-year starter for the Post University Softball Team, as well as four successful seasons with winning records.”  
 
Petrie brings a deep familiarity of knowledge of the game that will be beneficial towards the Dolphins.

Pitching Coach

Christine Wonica joined the CSI Softball coaching staff as the team's new Pitching Coach in August of 2023 and brings a great deal of coaching experience to the program.  Wonica began her coaching career with Long Island University in 1996 as a graduate assistant after earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Sports Medicine. She later joined the coaching staff at St. John Villa in 2001 where she remained until 2016.  Wonica also spent time coaching Staten Island Saints Travel Ball from 2011-2015 and has worked as both a Physical Education teacher and Assisant Athletic Director at Notre Dame High School.

Growing up in a sports-oriented family of Mets fans, Wonica played Softball at St. John Villa High School before going on to play collegiately at Long Island University's Brooklyn campus.  In 1992, she was the recipient of the Al Smith Cup which is awarded to the most outstanding Softball player on Staten Island.


A native of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Wonica currently resides on Staten Island with her husband Tom.  The pair has a daughter, Kailey.

Hitting Coach


Robert Santiago was hired as Hitting Coach for the CSI Softball Team in 2022.  Playing men’s open level fastpitch softball for over 30 years in numerous different states and countries, Santiago will bring valuable insight to the program. 
 
Santiago grew up playing a variety of sports including baseball, football, hockey, and basketball.  In 2019, he landed his first coaching job as an independent hitting coach for the Extreme Baseball and Softball Academy, where he is still working today. Santiago also has two National Championship awards, ASA (Amateur Softball Association,) and NSA (National Softball Association.)   In addition, he obtained a national batting title in men’s ASA fastpitch, and is among the top five teams in world championship rankings between 2012-2021. 
 
Santiago has grown as a hitting coach during his six years of experience by watching his young men and woman compete and be successful at all levels of fastpitch and baseball.  He has coached student-athletes that have played from the D3 through D1 level in Baseball and Softball, some of whom have graduated with degrees becoming doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, police officers, and firemen.  Most importantly, Santiago serves as a dedicated and supportive coach who always has his students best interest at heart.
