CSI FIELD ATHLETES IMPRESS AT NYC GOTHAM CUP INDOOR TRACK & FIELD INVITE

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Men's & Women's Indoor Track & Field teams participated in their fourth meet invite, all of which have been at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex in Staten Island, NY. The Dolphins competed in nine total events (two field and seven track) at the NYC Gotham Cup Invite. The events started at 1:00 PM and lasted into the late evening with well over 15 schools and hundreds of colligate and un-attached athletes competing. For CSI, the only team race was run by the men's team of Vincent Ohenhen, Christian Fernandez, Kyle Quesda, Jordan Thompson, and Samuel Pope who ran in the 4x400 Medley Relay. The team finished 15th out of the 17 schools competing with a time of 3:40.05. Full results can be found HERE.
 
INSIDE THE MEET
For the individual events, it was the Dolphin female field athletes that showcased a few season bests and new school records. In the women's Shot-Put field event, Skylar Pointer recorded a season best and new school record of 9.72 Meters. In the Weight-Throw field event, Ava Thompson broke the school record with a 11.65 Meter throw; the throw is currently top five in the CSI's conference the ECC. Pointer also participated in the Weight-Throw and recorded a season best of 10.37 Meters. Rebecca Andess made her indoor debut with a throw of 9.99 Meters. As it stands today, all three female weight-throwers are ranked in the top half of the ECC. On the track, Samuel Pope and Ahmed Khodir recorded season bests in the 800 Meter Run with time of 2:06.14 and 2:05.57 respectively. Another season best was recorded on the track by Macy Jones-Bush and Caitlyn Burns in the 60 Meter Dash. Jones-Bush beat her previous best by .38 seconds for a time of 8.67 seconds. Burns beat her previous best by .01 seconds with a time of 8.71 seconds.
 
COACH'S REACTION
Head Coach Andrew Gangemi, had this to say following the team's performance. "We had signs today that we are moving in the right direction. Much work to be done but the squad has bought in and the best is yet to come."  Assistant/Throws Coach, James Luginsland, remarked about the throwers performance today. "Highlighted by our female throwers, the whole event group had a great day. If we continue to keep doing what we are doing we will continue to grow and improve!"
