Amherst, NY – The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball team played in the second game of a road double-header at the number six ranked ECC undefeated Daemen College Wildcats home. CSI fell by double-digits early in the game and were never able to fully recover in what was a 91-52 loss to the Wildcats Friday evening. The loss drops CSI's record to 4-12 overall and 3-6 in the ECC, while the Wildcats win their eighth game in row and improve to 13-6 overall and a perfect 10-0 in conference play for the first time ever.
KEY MOMENTS
The Wildcats would start the game draining three straight three-point field goals. Daemen's Kyle Harris would hit the fourth three of the game capping an 18-0 start for Daemen. CSI's first basket came at the 13th minute mark off a Max Dylan Butler lay-up making the score, 18-2. The Wildcats would respond with another two threes, increasing their lead to 24-2. The Wildcats would cool-off a bit over the next five minutes, however, CSI was not able to muster much of a run as the lead ballooned to 29 points (44-15) with a little over two to play in the first half. A Messiah Mallory lay-in followed by a Bryce Waterman three-ball would cut the lead down to 26 points, however, Daemen would extend back to a 29-point lead as CSI could not get anything going offensively. CSI went into half down, 49-20.Chris Velasquez would score the first basket of the second half as both teams would trade baskets for the first three plus minutes. It wasn't long before the Wildcats made another run, this time a quick 10-0 run in a three-minute span extended their lead to 40 points (66-26). After a jumper by Trevor Book, that extended the lead to 42 points, Waterman would respond with back-to-back threes. Another Waterman three followed by Austin Mick's second three of the game would cut the Wildcat lead down to 34 points with under 10 minutes to play in the game. Two minutes later, a Velasquez fastbreak lay-up would cut the lead down to 30 points (74-44) with under eight to play. That would be the closest CSI would get in the second half before Daemen's bench would extend the lead for a final score of, 91-52.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Dolphins committed six turnovers in the first half leading to nine Wildcat points off those turnovers. CSI shot a mere 30% from the floor and 2-13 from three while the Wildcats shot over 50% from the field and from three in the first half alone. In the second half, CSI did a better job of competing with the Wildcats as they shot 40% from the field, however, Daemen also shot better in the second frame. The Wildcat bench outscored CSI 40-8, most of which came in the latter part of the second half. The Wildcats dominated in the paint scoring 44 of their 91 points under the basket. Andrew Sischo led Daemen with 14 points as he was one of four Wildcats in double-figures, though, all 13 players who entered the game for the Wildcats scored at least one field goal. CSI ended the game with three Dolphins in double-figure scoring.
DOLPHINS OF THE GAME
Chris Velasquez and Bryce Waterman are our Dolphins of the game tonight. Both scored 12 points as each shot 4-10 from the floor. Waterman was also 4-9 from three while Velasquez led the team in rebounds with eight and dished out a team high four assists.
