Amherst, NY – The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball played the first game of a road double-header at the home of the ECC undefeated Daemen College Wildcats. In a game that CSI never led, they played some gritty basketball and kept the score within striking distance for most of the game. However, it was the Wildcats that would come out on top by a final of, 73-48. The loss drops CSI's record to 3-13 overall and 1-6 in the ECC, while the Wildcats win their ninth game in row and improve to 11-3 overall and 9-0 in conference play.
KEY MOMENTS
The Dolphins held their own during the first quarter of play. CSI fell by as many as 11 points mid-way through the first, 17-6. Later in the quarter, CSI went on an 8-1 run in the final minute of play in the first; powered by back-to-back threes from Elizabeth Lofaro and Kristina Arvelo followed by a Gia Esposito lay-up in the final seconds. CSI was only down four points, 18-14, after one quarter of play. The Dolphins would continue their great ball movement to start the second quarter. Arvelo would hit her second three of the game early in the second that cut the Wildcats lead to three, 22-19. A Mickayla Ivy lay-up would cap an 11-2 in the next four minutes for the Wildcats that put them back up by double-digits, 33-21 with under four to play. The Wildcats would extend to a 13-point lead, 38-25 off a Katie Titus three-pointer in the final minute, as that would become the final basket before the halftime break. To start the third period, the Wildcats would take a brief 15-point lead, however, CSI would chip away slowly in the next few minutes. A Lofaro three-ball would cut the lead down to 10 points, 44-34, with just above five minutes to play in the third. Now with under three to play, the Wildcats would extend back to a 15-point, 51-36. CSI would cut the lead down to 12 points before the end of the third down, 52-40. The Wildcats would take a 14-point lead early in the fourth, however, the Dolphins kept the game within reach for the next five minutes of play, however, they were not able to capitalize off the misses by Daemen. A quick 10-0 run within the next two plus minutes of play by the Wildcats would give them their largest lead of the game at 22 points, down 68-46 with two minutes left play. CSI would fall in the end by a final of, 73-48.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Dolphins played well in the first half overall as both teams shot in the 44% range. However, CSI was outrebounded 21-11 in total, including 8-1 on the offensive end that led to 11 second chance points for the Wildcats. The Dolphins would play their best basketball in the third quarter as they outscored the Wildcats by one-point, 15-14 as they were down just 12 points to start the fourth period. It was the fourth period for Daemen where they did most of their damage in the eventual win. CSI held Daemen to 42% shooting, though, CSI shot only 35% from the field. The real damage came on the boards as CSI was outrebounded in all, 47-28 (14-5 offensive). Katie Titus for Daemen led all scorers with 31 points while hitting five threes, four of which came in the second half. Only two Dolphins were in double-figures tonight while everyone else shot a combined 6-22 (27%) from the field.
DOLPHINS OF THE GAME
Elizabeth Lofaro earns the Dolphin of the game as she registered 14 points and hit two threes while grabbing seven rebounds. She also dished out three assists and blocked a shot. The leading scorer for CSI was, Jenalyse Alarcon, who finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and blocked shot.
