Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team couldn't build upon a hot start as they fell to the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport this evening, 91-86. The Dolphins fall to 3-8 with the loss and drop below the .500 mark in conference play at 2-3. For the Purple Knights, their third straight win improves them to 6-8 overall and 4-2 against conference opponents.

KEY MOMENTS

The Dolphins opened the game red-hot from the floor and led by as many as fifteen in the first half, but a 10-2 Bridgeport run quickly got them back to within seven. Seven minutes later, the Purple Knights would tie the score at 37, but the Dolphins looked as if they would take the lead into the half behind two free throws in the closing seconds of half number one. However, Mason Williams would connect on a buzzer-beating three off of an offensive rebound to send his team into the locker room up by a single point. This shot completely shifted the momentum to the side of Bridgeport, and the Dolphins would never lead again. The Purple Knights led by as many as ten in the second half, but the Dolphins cut the lead down to four on a Bryce Waterman three with 44 seconds left. The Dolphins would get to as close as three with six seconds remaining, but the Purple Knights closed out the victory from the line moments later.          

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

The Dolphins shot the ball incredibly well in today's game, 50% from the field and 41% from downtown. CSI also outscored the Purple Knights in the paint 40-24, but they could not overcome the disparity in free-throw attempts. Bridgeport attempted 36 free throws, hitting 31 of them, while the Dolphins only took 7.   

DOLPHIN OF THE GAME

Today's Dolphins of the Game registered his second-straight double-double and was second on the team in scoring. Messiah Mallory had 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the loss as he continued his stellar freshman campaign. For Mallory, today's game marks the ninth time he has scored in double figures in the team's eleven games.
