WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS HOME FINALE TO WILDCATS, 4-1

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Soccer Team dropped their final home match of the season to Daemen University on Senior Day this afternoon as they were defeated by the Wildcats, 4-1.  CSI's hopes of an East Coast Conference playoff spot come to an end with the defeat as they are now 2-9-2 on the season, 2-5 against the East Coast Conference.  The Wildcats, now 4-9-2 overall, improved to 4-3 in conference play and clinched a playoff spot with the victory.

Ahead of kickoff, the Dolphins recognized their five seniors who were playing in their final game at Dolphins Soccer Park.  Caitlyn Burns, Sthefany Ballesteros, Barbara Serrano, Danie Duka, and Angye Galan all took the pitch at home for the final time in today's game and were presented with frames commemorating their time with the program ahead of kickoff following a pregame speech.  Early in the match, the Dolphins were presented with a tremendous scoring chance off of a Wildcats giveaway in the box, but Jacquelyn D'Amico sent a shot attempt just wide and the game remained scoreless.

The scoreless tie would not stand for long as Alyssa Diaz would score the first of her two goals in the thirty-fourth minute to put Daemen ahead 1-0.  The score would not change again until the final twenty minutes of the match when Faye Panagopoulos scored to increase the Wildcats' lead to a pair.  Moments later, Christina Lambraia scored to bring the Dolphins back to within a goal, but this was as close as the Dolphins would get.  Diaz would score a second time just five minutes later and Kylie Miranto would make it five goals in under ten minutes when she made it 4-1 in the eightieth minute.

For Lambraia her goal was number three on the season and was also the second she has scored at home.  Diaz moved into a tie for the team lead in goals with three following her first score, assumed the lead in that department following her second score, and was rejoined by Miranto atop the leaderboard in goals following Miranto's fourth of the season.  For the Dolphins, they are eliminated from playoff contention with just one match to go on their schedule, and for the Wildcats, their last game still holds some importance as they will have the opportunity to possibly move up to the three seed with a victory.

The Dolphins will play in their final match of the 2022 season on the road this Saturday when they visit conference rival and fellow CUNY program Queens College.
